While Engineers are familiar with the concept of Data and its significance, still there are few things in which they might be stuck. Here I am to help you learn some of the basics about the Data which will help you in the long run.
What is Data?
Till day, you might have heard that Data is a piece of information organized together. I personally, if someone asks me about Data, I prefer defining Data as information that is in the form of letters, numbers, and special characters. For example, ‘12DGge@’ can be called as Data.
Looking at the example, you might feel like how come this is Data? It is not at all organized and might not carry any importance when you read it. Here, I divide the Data I see into two categories.
a. Organized Data - Data that you feel valuable and informative.
b. Unorganized Data - Data that you feel does not carry any value. Nor even it is informative.
The question comes, how come Data is invaluable? Let me help you understand the concept with an example.
Firstly understand that Data is never invaluable. For example, when someone books a railway ticket from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, the information related to the train passenger is traveling in will be valuable. The rest of the information which is present related to some other train will be invaluable to the passenger, right?
But, that does not say that data is not valuable. The data you consider as invaluable might be valuable to some other passenger. This simply suggests and prove my point that Data is always valuable, but it defers from individual to individual.
I hope my definition of Data is clear to you and now you can easily differentiate between the Data that is valuable and invaluable for you. In case, you are still not clear about what is Data, you can get in touch with me on our social media channels. I will be pleased to answer your queries!
